Default Buy a put and a call on a volatile stock...

Is it just me? or does this seem like a pretty good idea?

Straddle, I believe it's called?

Buy a put and a call of a given volatile stock, so that if within 9 months the stock has gained or lost a few %, you can profit on it?

is this just good in theory? or does it work in practice also?
